This Reseller Made $228,600 in 48 Hours Selling Yeezy Boost 750’s
By now we all know the story of Allen Kuo, the reseller who got his hands on 100 pairs of the adidas Yeezy Boost 750 Grey/Gum and is now reselling them.
After reading this story from SneakerWatch we wanted to do our own digging to see if there were more “Allen Kuo’s” out there who were able to get their Yeezy Boosts early, a practice known as “back dooring”. We put a post on Facebook asking if any resellers would come forward and tell their story. We had over 100 responses in 48 hours from people willing to come forward but none that were able to get more than 2 or 3 pairs.
We almost gave up on the story when we received a message from a person we’ll call “Derrick”, Derrick emailed us and said he was willing to come talk to us but only if he could cover his face in fear that if people knew his identity he would be banned from the stores he currently works with. We agreed and invited “Derrick” to sit down and tell his story … he didn’t disappoint.
When Derrick first walked in I wasn’t very impressed, he spoke poorly, seemed like he was on drugs, cursed a lot, and had a certain sense of entitlement that I don’t respond very well to. I invited him to sit down and he immediately asked if we were recording him, I said no – not yet, he asked me to prove it by letting him look around the room, so I obliged. After the room sweep (as if he were CIA) he asked for everyone to leave so only he and I were allowed to talk, he pulled out a mask and said “ok, you can start recording now”. It was the weirdest thing ever, he was acting as if he were a drug cartel kingpin who was in hiding.
At first I thought he was just going to tell me a story of how he’s the greatest sneaker plug ever, and how he sells to celebrities, and blah, blah, blah. But it was anything but. Derrick told me a story of how he has multiple people on payroll including high level managers at big name retail stores. He showed me names, store addresses, phone numbers, and even invoices that had delivery numbers, style numbers, quantity levels, and delivery dates. He saves all of this information so when a shipment comes he knows exactly how much money he has to payout.
In his phone he had lists of stores (over 60) who supplies him with merchandise, with corresponding payout amounts. For example; store A gives him 9 pairs for $XXXX amount and the manger gets $XXX. It looked like he had the organizational chart of a fortune 500 company in his back pocket. He explained how he has multiple email accounts for online rigging services, and if he’s desperate he even has people who target buyers outside stores who pay all cash the minute they walk out, he calls this method “cherry picking” and admits that he hates doing it because he runs the risk of too many people knowing who he is.
With all of this going on we had to ask him about the adidas Yeezy Boost 750 Grey/Gum release. Specifically how many pairs he’s gotten and how many he’s sold. The amount is INSANE! He said “oh those? I made over $200,000 in 48 hours on those“. I had to ask him to repeat himself because I couldn’t believe it. He explained that prior to the release day he got his hands on 127 pairs of Yeezy’s from multiple stores in several states who were eager to backdoor them for an average price of $900 (some lower some higher depending on the source) and he was able to sell all of them for $1800 per pair within 48 hours. I asked him for proof and he pulled out his phone, logged into his bank account and showed me transaction after transaction totaling $228,600. It was mind blowing, this guy earned more money in 48 hours then most people do in an entire year and you wouldn’t know it from looking at him … if you could see him.
